Amenities:
SouthLake Farm offers numerous amenities for horse and rider, ranging
from the
convenience of a shower in one of the restrooms to a large covered
arena. Our boarders can ride under its lights when the days are short
in the winter or during the long summer evenings. Our highly experienced
SouthLake trainers can answer your questions and assist you with any
situation that may arise.
Horse
Care: SouthLake gives each horse high quality care and daily
attention. Board fees include feed, hay, and water, turnout, blanketing,
and stalls are cleaned at least twice daily. The barns are warm when
closed at night in winter, and we blanket horses who require it. Each
stall has a ceiling fan overhead to keep your horse comfortable in
the summer months and we also provide a feed through fly control in
the summer at no additional cost to reduce the number of flies.
Turnout:
Horses benefit from at least eight hours of turnout per day, weather
permitting. In Spring and Summer, horses are turned out at night.
Fly control is implemented during the summer months at no additional
charge. During the winter, horses are turned out during the day, while
their stalls are cleaned, with fresh bedding (shavings) added every
morning.
Feed:
We feed twice daily; hay and fresh water is always available to all
horses. Should your horse require a mid-day meal, we can provide that
as well. We feed a 12% pellet, 10% sweet feed and Beet pulp provided
by Southern States. We can work with you to tailor a feed schedule
that will have your horse at its best! Any supplements must be supplied
by owners, and will be added to the feed on schedule at no charge.
Veterinary
care: Boarders are added to SouthLake's routine veterinarian
and farrier schedules automatically unless you specify other arraignments.
All services by veterinarian, farrier, massage or chiropractic are
the owner's financial responsibility. You will be notified before
each visit. Please leave a check in the office beforehand for the
farrier or the veterinarian whenever they will work on your horse.
If you choose to handle your horse's routine shots with another vet,
please provide the office with a current shot record.
SouthLake's
veterinarian administers all appropriate vaccinations in the Spring
and Fall, with annual dental checks. All horses are de-wormed at 6-week
intervals, billed to the owner. If your horse is on a daily wormer,
it should receive a dose of Ivermectin rotating with a double dose
of Fenbendazole at least every 4 months.
Farriers:
We have two farriers. Both are highly experienced. One uses standard
shoes, fitted to each horse. He hot shoes which ensures a proper and
custom fit. Therapeutic shoeing is available through this farrier
as well. Our other farrier leaves shoes off horses that can manage
effectively without them using a natural trimming technique.
You
may choose a different veterinarian or farrier, but their scheduling
is then your responsibility. Please inform the office which vet and
farrier you use; fill out your stall card accordingly. In an emergency,
SouthLake staff refers to that card to call you and the veterinarian.
All emergency veterinarian bills are sent directly to the boarder.
If you can not be reached and there is no veterinarian information
on your card, our staff will use their best judgment to care for your
horse in an emergency.
Insurance:
SouthLake Farm recommends you insure your horse for mortality, loss
of use, major medical and liability coverage whenever possible. Insurance
is not a requirement, but be aware that SouthLake is not responsible
for any illness or other loss of boarded horses.
